Department of Botany – Student Enrichment Programmes
2015 – 16
A Campus walk programme was conducted as a part of Sahyadri club activity on 12/06/2015
A Biodivesity Quiz was organized on 16th December 2015, at the Smart room of the Botany Department. Dr. K. Kishore Kumar was the Quiz master.
Four Documentary films were shown to the students.
The Daily Quiz Programme was conducted regularly.
2013 – 14
A new Reading Corner was started on 27th June2014. It was inaugurated by Dr. Abdul Azeez P. (Malayalam Dept). He also donated some books for the Reading corner. Dr. K. Kishore Kumar (Club Convenor), Ms. Anjana S. and Mr. Naseeh (Club Secretary) etc. spoke on the occasion.
A Wild life Quiz was organized on 19th September 2014, in association with the Sahyadri Club and Canopy Nature Club, at the Smart room of the Zoology Dept. Dr. K. Kishore Kumar was the Quiz master. Mohammed Jasir. K. C. (3rd sem Zoology), Swafvana U. (5th sem Botany), Ajmal Babu M. (5th sem Physics) scored the 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes.
A new club, ‘Sahyadri’ was formed in the Department during December 2013 under the leadership of Dr. K. Kishore Kumar, Assistant Professor, to inculcate the idea of nature awareness in students. A committee was formed for the purpose which includes Principal, staff and students.
A Daily Quiz Programme on various topics of biological and general importance was started in the department on 13th December 2013 under the leadership of Dr. Kishore Kumar. K.
Sahyadriclub was formally inaugurated by Prof. T. Sobindran (Renowned Environmentalist & Indira Priyadarshini National Vriksha Mitra Award winner) on 23/01/2014.
Five Documentary films were shown to the students. This includes:

‘Animals are beautiful people’ – Shown on 10/01/2014

Field trips (17/01/2014) and Group discussions (07/02/2014) were also organised to learn more about our Campus biodiversity.
A Hand written ‘Sahyadri Magazine’ was prepared by students and released by Prof. N.K. Kurup, Former HOD, Botany Dept. on 29th March 2014.
2015 – 16
A study tour to Vagamon and Kodaikkanal for the fifth semester students was conducted from 14th October 2015 to 17th October 2015. Dr. K. Kishore Kumar, Smt. Anjana S. Mr.Yahya P.N . accompanied the students.
2014 – 15
One day Tour to Gurukula Botanical Sanctuary, Wayanad – On June 11th students of 3rd and 5th semester were taken to Gurukula Botanical Sanctuary, Wayanad owned by the German Scientist, Mr. WolfgangTheuerkauf. They also visited Pazhassi Dam, Pazhassi Tomb and Thirunelly Wildlife Sanctuary. Dr. K. Kishore Kumar & Dr. Abdul Azeez P. (Malayalam Dept), guided the students. Mr. Sulpheeker & Mr. Yahiya (Lab Assistants) also accompanied the group.
Students of IVth Semester B.Sc. Botany accompanied by Dr. Kishore Kumar. K, Anjana S.., P.N. Yahiya and P.V. Abdul Jaleel visited Thikkody, on 10th December 2014 for collecting Algal specimens.
2014 – 15
On 30th and 31st of August 2014 two students under the guidance of Dr. K. Kishore Kumar participated in the two day ‘Pookkala Sahavasam Camp’ organized at Madayippara, Kannur by the Society of Environmental Education in Kerala (SEEK), Kannur.
Dr. K. Kishore Kumar & Ms. Naseeha C.P. along with Mr. Yahiya (Lab Assistant) took the 5th Semester BSc Botany Students to their 4 day Study tour to Munnar, Eravikulam NP, Anamudi Shola NP, Chinnar WLS, Anamalai TR, Palni & Kodaikanal from 17th to 21st October 2014.
2013 – 14
Students of the Vth Semester B.Sc. Botany accompanied by Sri.T. Ahamad Kutty, V. Sainaba, P.N. Yahiya & V. Majeed, visited the Bangalore and Hyderabad from 18th to 25th October 2013 as a part of their Study Tour programme.
Students of IIIrd Semester B.Sc. Botany accompanied by Sri.T.P. Aboo, Dr. Kishore Kumar. K. & P.N. Yahiya visited Thikkody, on 10th November 2013 for collecting Algal specimens.
Students of the VIth Semester B.Sc. Botany accompanied by Dr. Kishore Kumar. K. & V. Majeed visited the Calicut University Botanical Gardens, on 29th November 2013.
